What is Novelty Search Service?
The Novelty Search Service is carried out by experienced patent examiners to discover prior art/state-of-the art information for a given invention/technical solution to help assess the novelty of an invention or technical solution. Novelty Search Service identifies patent documents and other publications that can be taken into account for the assessment of novelty and inventive step requirement in respect of the described invention.
The Novelty Search Service is performed in databases of patent and non-patent literature covering the PCT Minimum Documentation. These are the same databases that are used by European PCT Authorities like the VPI.
The service results in a Novelty Search Report that includes a brief summary of the cited documents with their relation to the invention shown by means of relevant applied international category codes, i.e. X, Y and A, as well as patent documents and other prior art data that appear to be relevant to the novelty and inventive step of the invention presented and disclosed.

About the Visegrad Patent Institute
The Visegrad Patent Institute is an intergovernmental organization for cooperation in the field of patents established by the four Visegrad countries and operates as an appointed PCT Authority under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) since 2016. The VPI performs international search and international preliminary examinations with 155 patent examiners of four national patent offices, who possess decades of experience in their field of expertise. The Novelty Search Service is carried out similar to an international search in respect of an international application under the PCT.
